Description For Principal Software Engineer, Remote Telemetry

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for Remote Telemetry on their Manufacturing Diagnostics as a Service core team. This role involves innovating existing CI/CD cloud applications supporting stress, functional, integration, and validation tests running remotely at System Integrators. The position also includes designing and implementing new application frameworks for supplier facilities earlier in the manufacturing process.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, cloud/enterprise systems, and experience with international development teams. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Designing, developing, and supporting code for remote execution frameworks using cloud applications.
  2. Supporting and extending robust workflow frameworks to ensure product quality.
  3. Collaborating with the MTE team to develop solutions for testing PCBAs, storage enclosures, and racked assemblies at ODM & Contract Manufacturer sites.
  4. Working with peer developers and architects to develop maintainable code in a CI/CD environment.
  5. Partnering with data scientists to analyze data from MDaaS test runs.
  6. Interfacing with internal reliability and qualification teams to drive test coverage parity.
  7. Developing and maintaining documentation for MDaaS Core team processes and procedures.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 10+ years of technical engineering experience (or equivalent). Proficiency in complex Python OOP, familiarity with Linux, and experience with server products are preferred. The position may require domestic and international travel, as well as off-hours work to support business in Asia.

Microsoft offers a competitive salary range of $133,600 - $256,800 per year (higher in San Francisco and New York City areas), along with comprehensive benefits including healthcare, educational resources, and opportunities for professional growth and networking.

Responsibilities For Principal Software Engineer, Remote Telemetry

  • Design, develop, and support code to create and maintain remote execution frameworks utilizing a cloud application
  • Support and extend a robust workflow framework to ensure product quality
  • Develop and support existing solutions to enable novel testing following the assembly process of PCBAs, storage enclosures, and racked assemblies within the ODM & Contract Manufacturer sites
  • Work with peer developers and Architects to develop robust, maintainable, and stable code in a CI/CD environment
  • Partner with other developers and data scientists to filter, analyze, and interpret data emanating from MDaaS test runs
  • Take on difficult challenges and communicate across organizational boundaries
  • Interface with internal reliability and qualification teams to drive parity between test coverage from reliability and qualification to manufacturing
  • Develop and maintain documentation on process or procedures within MDaaS Core team and with its internal/external partners

Requirements For Principal Software Engineer, Remote Telemetry

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • 5+ years of work experience in software for cloud/enterprise, consumer electronics design, or hyperscale supply chain systems
  • 1+ years partnering with international development teams, supporting business in APAC timezones
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Proficiency in complex Python Object Oriented Programming (OOP)
  • Familiarity with Linux operating system
  • Working knowledge of computer subsystems, component interfaces, add-on boards
