Description For Rendering Engineer Intern

Rare, an Xbox Game Studio, is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Rendering Engineer. As an intern in the rendering department, you'll work alongside industry experts on diverse areas of game development. The role involves working on cutting-edge real-time rendering techniques, implementing platform-specific features, performance optimizations, and debugging shaders. You'll contribute to projects like Sea of Thieves and future Rare IP. The internship provides on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and personal development. Rare values creativity and offers a welcoming campus in the Midlands with a flexible hybrid work pattern. This 12-month internship is based at Rare Studio in Twycross, Leicestershire, and requires on-site work. Applicants should have a strong understanding of computer programming, experience with C or C++, and knowledge of rendering or computer graphics. Responsibilities For Rendering Engineer Intern

  • Develop and maintain technologies using graphics hardware
  • Work closely with Engine, Visual Effects, and Technical Art teams
  • Implement and maintain compute shaders
  • Optimize GPU particle simulations
  • Contribute to rendering system improvements (e.g., D3D12 renderer)
  • Research and implement cutting-edge real-time rendering techniques
  • Perform performance investigations and optimizations
  • Debug shaders using tools like PIX
  • Write automated tests for shader code
  • Identify and surface risks in work areas

Requirements For Rendering Engineer Intern

  • Good understanding or passion for computer programming and software creation
  • Hands-on experience or projects applying programming skills
  • Familiarity with C or C++
  • Rendering or computer graphics experience (e.g., DirectX/OpenGL/Vulkan)
  • Legal authorization to work in the UK
  • Willingness to work on-site at Rare Studio, Twycross, Leicestershire
