Research Engineer – Generative AI – AI Frontiers

Microsoft Research AI Frontiers lab is seeking a Research Engineer to join their team in Redmond, WA. The lab's mission is to expand the pareto frontier of AI capabilities, efficiency, and safety through innovations in foundation models and learning agent platforms.

The role involves working on cutting-edge projects including Small Language Models (e.g., Phi, Orca), and Agentic AI (e.g., AutoGen, OmniParser, Magentic-One, Magentic-UI). As a Research Engineer, you'll contribute to developing and improving Generative AI models, with work focused on:

• Pre-training of language models, action models and multimodal models
• Alignment and Post-training: instruction tuning and reinforcement learning
• Reasoning: Enabling LLMs to scale inference-time compute
• Action Models: Training models for digital world interaction
• Orchestration and multi-agent systems

The position offers competitive compensation:

• IC3 Level: $100,600 - $199,000 base pay (higher for SF/NYC: $131,400 - $215,400)
• IC4 Level: $119,800 - $234,700 base pay (higher for SF/NYC: $158,400 - $258,000)
