The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking a full-time Senior System Operator Training Engineer to join their Operations department. As a System Operator Training Engineer, you will be an expert on dispatch and control applications of the NYISO real-time system and operate the NYISO Integrated System Simulator (ISS) in cooperation with System Operator Trainers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing simulation exercises for NYISO training programs
- Managing simulator data and equipment outage schedules
- Developing and maintaining processes for establishing base cases from real-time conditions
- Identifying improvements to system modeling and working with Power Systems Application Engineering
- Participating in industry working groups and forums
- Supporting integration of processes, tools, and displays into system operations
- Performing simulation analysis for engineering studies
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of technical leadership experience in information system project life cycles, preferably in an electrical utility organization
- Expert knowledge of power system analysis, electrical system performance, and various operating systems
- Strong understanding of NYISO bulk power system operations and applicable procedures
- Advanced skills in complex problem-solving, technical writing, and data analysis
