Niantic is seeking a Game Development Engineer with creative and technical expertise to work on various live-game challenges and features for Pokémon GO. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional partners, bridging technical and creative aspects of game development, and leveraging curiosity and passion for mobile games to develop best-in-class features.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with cross-functional partners to improve Pokémon Go
- Designing and implementing scalable systems for a large, diverse player base
- Developing long-term technical strategies to achieve business objectives
- Analyzing and improving performance in a legacy codebase
- Facilitating communication between engineering, art, and design teams
- Collaborating closely with team members and stakeholders
- Required in-office presence 2 days a week (Wednesday and Thursday)
Qualifications:
- Experience with game engines like Unity3D
- Proficiency in C# (C++/Java/Kotlin/Objective C/Swift is a plus)
- Experience shipping high-performance games, preferably on Mobile
- Experience with multiplayer networked games
- Ability to work in an iterative, creative environment
- Adaptability to handle dynamic situations
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Additional desirable skills:
- Experience with geospatial gaming titles on Mobile
- Native/Graphics programming experience on Mobile
- Full-stack development experience with cloud networking backends
- Experience building AR or VR gameplay experiences
- Passion for Pokémon Go or community-oriented games
