Description For Quantitative Developer

The Energy Markets team at Octopus Energy is seeking a Quantitative Developer with electricity market experience to join their Group Risk team. This role combines domain knowledge, data analysis, and business-critical activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and developing risk and trading technology to optimize and automate electricity and gas supply for customer demand while supporting the grid's Net Zero transition.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring market changes to ensure accurate risk pipelines for each Octopus geography
  • Developing and implementing logic for producing accurate forward price curves
  • Working with the trading team to highlight areas of risk
  • Collaborating with the Power Purchase Agreement team on appropriate price curves for generator contracts
  • Globalizing the existing platform to enhance risk view across the wider Octopus Group

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience and solid commercial understanding of at least one European power market
  • Strong aptitude in SQL and Python for analysis and pipeline development
  • Team player mentality with excitement for ownership across various projects and tools
  • Willingness to travel to Octopus offices across Europe and the US
  • Drive to stay updated with industry standards, best practices, and available market data

Responsibilities For Quantitative Developer

  • Monitor market changes to ensure risk pipelines are accurate for each Octopus geography

  • Work with the Power Purchase Agreement team to ensure we're using the most appropriate price curves as a basis for contracts with generators
  • Help to globalise the existing platform as we expand our codebase to enhance our view of risk across the wider Octopus Group

Requirements For Quantitative Developer
