OpenAI is seeking a Data Engineer to join their ChatGPT team, one of Silicon Valley's fastest-growing products. This role focuses on driving product analytics and growth through data-driven insights. As the first Data Engineer in this capacity, you'll be instrumental in building and managing data pipelines, developing metrics tracking systems, and ensuring data integrity.
The position offers a competitive compensation package of $245K-$310K plus equity and comprehensive benefits, including medical coverage and parental leave. Based in San Francisco HQ, this role requires 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years specifically in data engineering.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in Python or similar languages, distributed processing technologies, and ETL frameworks. You'll work across teams including Infrastructure, Data Science, Product, and Research, making critical contributions to business decisions and product development.

Responsibilities For Data Engineer, Safety Systems
- Design, build and manage data pipelines for user event data integration into data warehouse
- Develop canonical datasets to track key product metrics including user growth, engagement, and revenue
- Work collaboratively with Infrastructure, Data Science, Product, Marketing, Finance, and Research teams
- Implement robust and fault-tolerant systems for data ingestion and processing
- Participate in data architecture and engineering decisions
- Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance
Requirements For Data Engineer, Safety Systems
- 3+ years of experience as a data engineer and 8+ years of any software engineering experience
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Scala, or Java
- Experience with distributed processing technologies (Hadoop, Flink) and storage systems (HDFS, S3)
- Expertise with ETL schedulers (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
- Solid understanding of Spark and ability to write, debug and optimize Spark code
