Description For Data Scientist, Human Data

OpenAI's Human Data Team creates custom data solutions driving groundbreaking research. This role focuses on enhancing and evaluating flagship models like ChatGPT, GPT-4, and Sora, while contributing to safety initiatives. As an early member of the data science effort on human data, you'll establish data-driven processes for understanding and improving data quality across all dimensions. You'll define north-star metrics, create source-of-truth dashboards, and be a core member of the human data team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Embedding with the human data team to improve data quality and throughput
  • Defining and interpreting tests to assess the impact of model, UX, and process changes
  • Establishing a data-driven development culture
  • Developing dashboards and reports for self-serve data analysis

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a quantitative role in ambiguous research environments
  • Experience with SQL and Python for rigorous experiments
  • Ability to define and operationalize new metrics
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strategic insights beyond statistical significance testing

Additional valuable skills:

  • Experience in NLP, large language models, or generative AI
  • Strong programming background
  • Experience validating quantitative insights with qualitative methods
