As a Senior Backend Software Engineer at Pearl Health, you'll play a crucial role in building and maintaining our future state architecture. We're seeking an experienced and passionate engineer to implement data transforms and projections, develop the vending layer for our Web UI, and transition our current system to the future state.
You'll be working with a team of physicians, public health experts, technologists, and healthcare innovators from prestigious institutions and companies. Pearl Health has recently partnered with Walgreens to expand value-based care and is backed by notable investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Viking Global Investors.
In this role, you'll design and implement scalable serverless architectures, ensure efficient data storage and retrieval, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into technical solutions. You'll also mentor junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of our architecture and infrastructure.
We're looking for someone with 5+ years of backend software development experience, strong proficiency in Python and frameworks like PySpark, and experience with serverless architectures and cloud computing platforms. You should have a proven track record of designing scalable APIs and working with both relational and non-relational databases.

Responsibilities For Senior Software Engineer, Backend
- Implement a scalable serverless architecture and infrastructure to transform and vend healthcare data to the Pearl platform
- Design and implement data transforms and projections to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval
- Implement best practices for data access and security to ensure compliance and privacy
- Collaborate with data scientists, product teams, and user experience experts to understand data and product requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Collaborate with product teams and provide training documentation on onboarding in the future state architecture
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior members of the engineering team
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends in software engineering and contribute to the continuous improvement of our architecture and infrastructure
Requirements For Senior Software Engineer, Backend
- 5+ years of experience in performing results-driven backend software development in a collaborative environment
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in frameworks such as PySpark
- Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable APIs
- Strong experience with data transforms and working with both relational and non-relational databases
- Familiarity with serverless architectures and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS lambda)
- Experience with unit testing frameworks (e.g., pytest), integration testing, and end-to-end testing methodologies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a passion for building robust and efficient solutions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Previous experience in regulated environments and knowledge of privacy and security considerations in data engineering
- Prior exposure to the healthcare, insurance, or fintech industries is a bonus, along with a genuine passion for our mission
