Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Polaron, a pioneering spin-out from Imperial College London, is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their innovative team of nine. Founded by Dr Isaac Squires, Dr Steve Kench, and Dr Sam Cooper, Polaron aims to revolutionize the intersection of AI and materials science. The company is building a SaaS product that enables materials engineers to leverage cutting-edge AI in their work.

As a Senior ML Engineer, you'll have significant autonomy and influence over the platform's development and direction. The role involves optimizing algorithms for material characterization and adapting advanced machine learning methods for material science applications. The position offers a competitive salary range of £85,000-130,000, depending on experience.

The company operates primarily from their East London office in Shoreditch Exchange Hoxton, with a flexible hybrid work arrangement (typically 4 days in office, 1 day WFH). They use modern technologies including Python/PyTorch for ML, TypeScript with React/Next.js for frontend, and robust infrastructure with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.

The ideal candidate should have 2+ years of experience in production-level code for computer vision applications, strong technical communication skills, and a degree in a relevant field (PhD desirable).
