Polaron, a pioneering spin-out from Imperial College London, is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their innovative team of nine. Founded by Dr Isaac Squires, Dr Steve Kench, and Dr Sam Cooper, Polaron aims to revolutionize the intersection of AI and materials science. The company is building a SaaS product that enables materials engineers to leverage cutting-edge AI in their work.
As a Senior ML Engineer, you'll have significant autonomy and influence over the platform's development and direction. The role involves optimizing algorithms for material characterization and adapting advanced machine learning methods for material science applications. The position offers a competitive salary range of £85,000-130,000, depending on experience.
The ideal candidate should have 2+ years of experience with production-level code for computer vision applications, strong proficiency in Python ML libraries, and cloud computing expertise. The tech stack includes Python/PyTorch, TypeScript with React/Next.js, Docker, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL.
The company operates on a flexible hybrid model, typically with 4 days in office and 1 day WFH at their East London location. Responsibilities For Senior Machine Learning Engineer
- Optimising efficiency and robustness of Polaron's existing algorithms for material characterisation, exploration and optimisation
- Adapting cutting edge machine learning methods for material science applications
Requirements For Senior Machine Learning Engineer
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, Math, Physics, or similar – or equivalent work experience (PhD in STEM subject desirable)
- 2+ years experience writing production-level code for computer vision based applications with Python ML libraries, e.g Pytorch, TensorFlow
- Proficiency with version control and cloud computing e.g. AWS, Azure
- Enthusiasm for complex problem solving
- Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to clearly disseminate new ideas and ML concepts to the rest of the team
