Description For Lead Camera Systems Engineer

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is seeking a Lead Camera Systems Engineer to join their team. This role is crucial in developing camera systems for various Samsara product lines and investigating new technologies. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Defining next-generation camera hardware based on new technologies, field feedback, and customer requirements.
  2. Creating camera subsystem specifications and working on all aspects of camera module development.
  3. Defining test and calibration methods for camera modules and other optical sensors.
  4. Working on SOC video pipeline definition, imaging ISP, and image quality tuning.
  5. Reviewing board-level schematic design and PCB layout of camera circuits.
  6. Conducting root cause analysis for build or field failures and implementing design changes.
  7. Staying updated on the latest camera technologies and evaluating leading-edge technologies.
  8. Integrating EVKs to showcase new technology concepts and demos.
  9. Working closely with product teams to manage top JDM companies in designing, validating, and manufacturing quality products.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of professional experience in camera system development, proficiency in camera system modeling and circuit design, experience with CMOS image sensor technology, and a strong background in optical engineering. Responsibilities For Lead Camera Systems Engineer

  • Define next-generation camera hardware based on new technologies, field feedback, and customer requirements
  • Create camera subsystem specifications, analyze, model, characterize, and test camera module components
  • Define test and calibration methods for camera modules and other optical sensors
  • Work on SOC video pipeline definition, imaging ISP, IQ tuning, and image quality evaluation
  • Review board-level schematic design and PCB layout of camera circuits
  • Bring up camera and other optical subsystems for next-generation products or new product proof of concept
  • Conduct root cause analysis for build failures or field failures
  • Stay abreast of the latest camera technologies and evaluate leading edge technologies
  • Integrate EVKs to showcase new technology concepts and demos
  • Work closely with product teams to manage top JDM companies in product development and manufacturing

Requirements For Lead Camera Systems Engineer

Linux
  • 10+ years of professional industry experience in camera system development
  • Proficient in camera system level modeling, simulation, data analysis, board-level schematic design, and PCB layout of camera circuits
  • Experience working on CMOS image sensor technology, image signal processing pipelines, lens characterization, and module active alignment
  • Experience working with camera sensor chipset, lens, or module vendors, image test instrument suppliers, JDM partners, and shipping high-volume products
  • Proficient in simulation tools such as Zemax or Code V, as well as EDA tools such as Altium or Cadence
  • Experience with lab instruments and equipment for designing and performing laboratory experiments for camera and other optical sensors testing and test automation
  • Ability to deal with product requirements ambiguity and design trade-offs
  • Bachelors or masters in Optical, Physics, Opto-electrical or similar
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area
