Description For Mechanical Engineer - Reliability (Falcon)

SpaceX, founded on the belief that humanity's future lies in space exploration, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for their Build Reliability organization. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability of flight components and production assemblies for the Falcon program. As a Build Reliability Engineer, you'll collaborate with various teams, guiding hardware from design to operation. You'll use data to drive reliability improvements in manufacturing, test, and flight. The role requires a hands-on approach, working in the office, factory floor, and lab.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with design and manufacturing teams to create quality plans for flight hardware
  • Developing and implementing Lean test and inspection processes
  • Monitoring product and process success during production ramp-up
  • Conducting build quality reviews and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Investigating failures and mitigating root causes
  • Supporting continuous improvement on the shop floor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (mechanical, aerospace, materials, manufacturing, chemical, or electrical engineering)
  • 1+ years in manufacturing, quality, or design engineering (student projects or internships qualify)
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Enthusiasm for innovation and improving reliability in cutting-edge technology

Responsibilities For Mechanical Engineer - Reliability (Falcon)

  • Partner with design engineering and manufacturing teams to create quality plans for flight hardware
  • Develop, implement and validate Lean test and inspection processes
  • Monitor product and process success during production ramp-up
  • Conduct regular build quality reviews
  • Investigate failures in production, test and flight
  • Contain suspect or known non-conforming product
  • Support continuous improvement on the shop floor

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer - Reliability (Falcon)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or another STEM related field
  • 1+ years in a manufacturing, quality and/or design engineering role (student project team or internship experience qualifies)
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Enthusiasm for innovation and improving reliability in cutting-edge technology
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR requirements
