SpaceX is revolutionizing space technology with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. As part of the Starshield team, you'll be working on a critical initiative that leverages SpaceX's Starlink technology for national security applications.

The Network Automation Engineer role at SpaceX's Starshield division offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge space technology while supporting critical national security missions. You'll be responsible for creating and maintaining the tooling that powers and monitors the Starshield service provider network, a sophisticated system designed specifically for government use with focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads.

In this role, you'll be at the intersection of space technology and network infrastructure, helping to build highly reliable in-space mesh networks and designing secure systems that guarantee access to space. You'll work with a team of talented engineers to deploy, upgrade, and maintain a global networking service while ensuring high availability and performance of critical systems.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $122,500 to $170,000 per year, depending on experience level, along with comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, 401(k), equity opportunities, and paid parental leave. The role is based in Redmond, WA, with company shuttle service available from select Seattle locations.

Responsibilities For Network Automation Engineer (Starshield)

  • Deploy, upgrade, operate/maintain, and scale a global networking service to government customers
  • Closely collaborate with software engineers to create highly operable and maintainable infrastructure
  • Measure, maintain, and improve the uptime and performance of the terrestrial network
  • Act as technical product owner for infrastructure tools and software
  • Innovate ways to scale with automation and operational improvements
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers
  • Participate in the on-call rotation

Requirements For Network Automation Engineer (Starshield)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience
  • Experience with networking protocols (TCP/IPv4/IPv6)
  • Experience with Linux operating system
  • Automation experience in Python, Shell, Bash

  • Must be available for on-call rotations
  • Must be eligible to obtain required authorizations from U.S. Department of State
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance
