Description For Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer for their Consumer Hardware (Starlink) team in Bastrop, TX. This role is part of the Starlink project, which aims to provide fast, reliable internet worldwide through a satellite constellation. The engineer will lead creative, multi-disciplinary projects designing both consumer products and the factories that manufacture them.

Responsibilities include:

  • Owning Starlink consumer hardware from conceptual design through high volume production and public launch
  • Developing design criteria, collaborating on requirements, and driving system-level optimization
  • Testing and iterating on products for high field reliability and performance
  • Designing and developing production lines, including robot end effector design and automation programming
  • Refining production systems for high-rate, high-yield, and reliable processes
  • Establishing efficient product lifecycles balancing cost, complexity, and quality

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred) and FEA software
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, and structural analysis
  • Experience with complex mechanical systems and manufacturing processes
  • Self-motivation and excellent communication skills

SpaceX offers a competitive salary range of $125,000 - $175,000 per year, along with benefits including stock options, comprehensive health coverage, 401(k), paid parental leave, and vacation time. This role requires the ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones.
