SpaceX, a pioneering space exploration company, is seeking a Senior SerDes Characterization and Validation Engineer to join their Silicon Engineering team in Irvine, CA. This role is crucial for the development of cutting-edge ASICs that power SpaceX's Starlink satellite constellation, the world's most advanced broadband internet system.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on next-generation ASICs for both space and ground infrastructures, directly contributing to expanding global connectivity. As part of world-class cross-disciplinary teams, you'll be responsible for validating and characterizing high-speed SerDes blocks, developing sophisticated test methods, and ensuring optimal performance across various environmental conditions specific to space applications.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of SerDes platform experience and strong expertise in SerDes architectures, signal integrity, and test methodologies. You'll work closely with ASIC design, electrical design, and software teams, writing code in Python and C/C++ to validate SerDes implementations.

Responsibilities For Sr. SerDes Characterization and Validation Engineer (Silicon Engineering)

  • Bring up, validate and characterize high speed SerDes blocks in new and existing silicon chips
  • Develop test methods to evaluate performance and calculate operating margins
  • Work with ASIC design team to add/improve testability
  • Work with electrical design team to review signal integrity
  • Evaluate new SerDes IP from internal and external IP providers
  • Write software routines (Python, C/C++) to bring up and validate the SerDes

Requirements For Sr. SerDes Characterization and Validation Engineer (Silicon Engineering)

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science
  • 5+ years of professional experience working on SerDes platforms
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirements)
  • Working knowledge of SerDes block, e.g. CTLE, DFE, FFE, CDR and PLLs
  • Very good working knowledge of test and measurement equipment
  • Understanding of SerDes calibration
  • Working knowledge of SerDes Signal Integrity eye diagrams, Bathtub Curves
