Description For Backend Engineer - Client Delivery

Spotify, the world's leading audio streaming platform, is seeking a Backend Engineer for their Advertising R&D team's Client Delivery squad. This role focuses on building and maintaining key backend services and data pipelines that power ad delivery to millions of users globally. The position involves working with Java services, data processing frameworks like Scio and Flink, and requires strong SQL skills. The team's mission is to build a next-generation advertising platform for audio and video, operating at massive scale to serve hundreds of millions of fans and thousands of advertisers.

The role offers an opportunity to work in an innovative environment where experimentation and quick iteration are valued. You'll be part of a team responsible for ensuring seamless ad delivery across Spotify's free tier and podcast content. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, from engineers to product owners and designers, to build scalable solutions that drive the platform's advertising capabilities.

Working in the EST time zone, you'll have the flexibility to work remotely within the North American region. The compensation package includes a competitive salary range of $125,562 - $179,374 plus equity, comprehensive health benefits, generous paid time off, and retirement benefits. Responsibilities For Backend Engineer - Client Delivery

  • Collaborate with key internal partners to determine how to design backend systems and APIs scalably
  • Architect, develop and operate Java services deployed to millions of users
  • Work with data engineers to build and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines
  • Be a technical leader and valued contributor in an autonomous, multi-functional agile team
  • Identify hard-to-understand problems using SQL
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product owners, and designers to identify and solve problems

Requirements For Backend Engineer - Client Delivery

Java
Scala
  • 3+ years of working experience with Java and/or Scala
  • Experience with distributed, high-volume services deployment and maintenance
  • Experience working directly with stakeholders to understand, document, and develop APIs
  • Deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Strong focus on code quality
  • Experience debugging problems using SQL (Nice to have)
  • Experience with C++ or interest in learning C++ (Nice to have)
