Description For Senior Staff Engineer, Modeling

Takeda's Synthetic Molecule Process Development (SMPD) team is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer specializing in Crystallization & Particle Engineering (Modeling). This role combines advanced engineering expertise with pharmaceutical development, focusing on developing robust, cost-effective processes for new small-molecule pharmaceuticals. The position requires expertise in crystallization kinetics, mass/heat transfer, and mathematical modeling, with a strong emphasis on population balance modeling (PBM).

The role involves leading complex particle engineering challenges, establishing scale-up models, and implementing process analytical technologies (PAT). The successful candidate will work at the intersection of chemical engineering and data science, using both first-principle and data-driven approaches to optimize pharmaceutical processes. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Automation, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering experts to develop digital twins and advance modeling capabilities.

  • Lead design, development, optimization, and scale-up of crystallization processes using advanced modeling
  • Develop and validate predictive crystallization models
  • Design and execute experimental workflows with PAT integration
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop digital twins for crystallization processes
  • Drive adoption of in-silico first approach
  • Provide expert technical leadership in crystallization modeling
  • Review and communicate modeling outcomes to stakeholders
  • Author technical reports and regulatory filings
  • Stay current with emerging trends in crystallization modeling
  • Champion knowledge-sharing and training across the organization

Requirements For Senior Staff Engineer, Modeling

Python
  • Ph.D. or postdoctoral fellowship in Chemical Engineering or related pharmaceutical science with 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of crystallization, filtration, drying processes
  • Strong knowledge of transport phenomena and thermodynamics
  • Experience with crystallization and particle engineering modeling software (gPROMS, Aspen, Ansys, Dynochem)
  • Experience with CFD modeling software (Ansys, Star CCM+, MStar CFD)
  • Proficient in communicating and data collection from systems
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, R, SQL, and good coding practices
