Description For Staff Engineer, Modeling

Takeda Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Staff Engineer, Modeling to join their Synthetic Molecule Process Development (SMPD) team within the Process Engineering & Technology Group. This role combines chemical engineering expertise with advanced modeling and simulation to develop robust pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

The position focuses on leveraging expertise in reaction kinetics, transport phenomena, and mathematical modeling to solve complex chemical reaction challenges. The role involves developing scale-up/down models for unit operations using both first-principle and data-based approaches. You'll work with process analytical technologies (PAT) and mathematical models to enhance process understanding and enable data-rich experimentation.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, optimizing, and scaling up manufacturing processes for synthetic molecule drug substances. You'll utilize digital twin functionalities and implement model-based design of experiments for process characterization. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams including Automation, Manufacturing, Process Engineers, and PAT experts.

The ideal candidate should have strong technical skills in chemical engineering fundamentals, experience with modeling software (including CFD and reaction kinetics), and programming proficiency in languages like Python, R, and SQL. Responsibilities For Staff Engineer, Modeling

  • Design, develop, optimize, and scale-up manufacturing processes using modeling and simulation
  • Utilize advanced process modeling tools and digital twin functionalities
  • Develop experimental designs and workflows for model development
  • Collaborate on developing and deploying digital twins of unit operations
  • Develop modeling and simulation solutions for process design and optimization
  • Implement in-silico tools and approach to process development
  • Author regulatory documents, validation plans, and peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Analyze technical issues and coordinate resolutions based on model predictions

Requirements For Staff Engineer, Modeling

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related pharmaceutical science with 5+ years experience, OR
  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering with 3+ years experience, OR
  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with 0+ years experience
  • Strong knowledge of chemical reaction engineering and catalysis
  • Strong knowledge of transport phenomena and thermodynamics
  • Experience with reaction kinetic modeling software (ReactionLab, Dynochem, gPROMS, COMSOL)
  • Experience with CFD modeling software (Ansys, Star CCM+, MStar CFD)
  • Proficient in data collection from sensors, controllers, and industrial systems
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, R, SQL, and good coding practices
