Description For Engineer, Abuse Test & Engineering

Tesla's Abuse Test & Engineering team plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of Tesla's diverse product portfolio, including Vehicles, Energy Products, and Robotics. This position sits at the intersection of various systems and subsystems, focusing on investigating abusive field conditions and physics to drive industry-leading product design improvements.

As an Engineer in this team, you'll be responsible for conducting in-depth investigations into technical issues across multiple systems, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify root causes of failures and develop effective mitigation strategies. Your work will directly impact the safety and performance of Tesla's innovative products, from electric vehicles to energy storage solutions and robotics applications.

The role requires a strong engineering background with expertise in thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. You'll be hands-on in recreating and analyzing failure modes, developing internal standards, and implementing product improvements. Responsibilities For Engineer, Abuse Test & Engineering

  • Investigate root causes of technical issues involving various systems, sub-components, and firmware
  • Recreate abusive conditions and failure modes to confirm theories about system properties
  • Develop and validate mitigations to identified issues
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary product improvement implementations
  • Develop internal standards and processes to improve product safety

Requirements For Engineer, Abuse Test & Engineering

  • Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Fundamentals in thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties
  • Ability to interact across a variety of groups collaboratively
  • Practical, hands-on, can-do attitude
  • Approximately 5% expected travel
