Description For Engineering Technician, Factory Firmware (Night Shift)

Tesla is seeking an Engineering Technician for Factory Firmware to work on the night shift. This role is crucial in supporting engineering integration and manufacturing operations, including quality, rate, and change control. The ideal candidate will excel in a cross-functional environment, investigating vehicle test failures, conducting data-driven root cause analyses, and implementing continuous improvements. They will support firmware trials, oversee changes to vehicle self-tests, new factory firmware releases, and manage change control related to vehicle software. The role involves assisting other teams with vehicle diagnostics, debugging, and component replacement support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigating and implementing countermeasures to improve line processes and first pass yield of testing
  • Supporting escalations, diagnosing and resolving firmware and testing issues
  • Documenting troubleshooting steps and training on fixing first-level issues at module firmware download stations
  • Working with firmware engineers on trials and documenting firmware releases and self-test configurations
  • Managing small projects involving multiple departments and/or outside contractors
  • Troubleshooting and repairing according to instructed processes

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • An Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting automotive electrical systems
  • Experience with CAN diagnostic tools and software development tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bash, and Linux file systems
