Description For Engineering Technician, Hardware Test Engineering, Seats

As a member of Tesla's Hardware Test Engineering group, this Engineering Technician role focuses on seat systems development. The position involves hands-on work with assembling and disassembling seats, as well as removing and reinstalling vehicle components for testing purposes. Key responsibilities include designing and building test fixtures, executing tests, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring seat systems from concept to program release.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, work closely with Test Engineers, and meet tight deadlines. This role requires proficiency with various tools such as calipers, digital multimeters, force gauges, torque wrenches, and DAQs. The technician will also need to solder, crimp, and read wiring diagrams for electrical testing and troubleshooting.

Other duties include:

  • Executing tests, including setup, teardown, inspections, maintenance, and retrofits
  • Operating forklifts to move equipment
  • Assembling and preparing test fixtures
  • Documenting and reporting issues to support continuous improvement
  • Supporting engineers with instrumentation and data acquisition
  • Using power tools for fabricating test equipment and fixtures
  • Performing seat teardowns and inspections

Responsibilities For Engineering Technician, Hardware Test Engineering, Seats

  • Utilize various tools, including calipers, digital multimeters, force gauges, torque wrenches, and DAQs
  • Solder, crimp, and read wiring diagrams to support electrical testing and troubleshooting
  • Execute tests, including setup, teardown, inspections, maintenance, and retrofits
  • Operate forklifts to move equipment in and out of chambers and lab space
  • Assemble and prepare test fixtures, including support structures, devices under test, controllers, wire harnesses, and test equipment
  • Document and report issues identified during tests or inspections to support continuous improvement
  • Support engineers with instrumentation and data acquisition to ensure accurate and reliable test results
  • Use power tools, such as bandsaws and drill presses, to fabricate test equipment and fixtures
  • Perform seat teardowns and inspections to support testing and validation activities

Requirements For Engineering Technician, Hardware Test Engineering, Seats

  • Basic experience with MS Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Understanding of Ohm's Law and its application in electrical testing and troubleshooting
  • Strong focus on safety, adhering to established protocols and procedures
  • Excellent multitasking, communication, and organization skills, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs throughout the day and climb stairs as needed
  • Quick adaptation to changing project priorities and tasks, with a flexible and responsive approach
