Description For Internship, Automation Development & Tooling Engineer (Winter/Spring 2025)

Tesla is seeking highly motivated post-secondary interns to contribute to the design and development of new automation equipment and assembly lines for our advanced production facilities. This internship, starting around January or February 2025 and continuing through Spring 2025 or into Spring/Summer 2025, offers a unique opportunity to be part of the team building "the machine that makes the machine."

The internship program at Tesla is driven by the passion to recognize and develop emerging talent. Interns will work closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team on critical projects, growing technically, professionally, and personally. The position requires a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site commitment.

Interns may work in various teams such as:

  • Automation Mechanical Design Engineering: Developing and designing new manufacturing equipment
  • Automation Controls Engineering: Developing, designing, and programming control systems for new equipment
  • Die Engineering: Executing project tasks relating to stamping die design and development

The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes, proficiency with CAD software, and hands-on experience with machines and mechanisms are highly valued.

  • Contribute to the design and development of new automation equipment
  • Work on assembly lines for advanced production facilities
  • Participate in critical subsystems of Tesla products
  • Develop and design new manufacturing equipment (Automation Mechanical Design Engineering)
  • Develop, design, and program control systems for new equipment (Automation Controls Engineering)
  • Execute project tasks relating to stamping die design and development (Die Engineering)

Requirements For Internship, Automation Development & Tooling Engineer (Winter/Spring 2025)

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency with CAD (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks)
  • Strong propensity to build, assemble, fix and program things
  • Hands-on experience, previous internship, and/or project experience (preferred)
  • Coursework in analog and digital circuits, control systems, logic, and programming
  • Exposure to programming microcontrollers
  • Use of common power and hand tools
  • Programming experience in C++, Python, SQL or similar language
