Tesla's Opitcaster team is seeking an Energy Optimization Software Intern for Winter/Spring 2025. This role is part of the team that develops and maintains high-level control systems for Megapacks, Powerwalls, Virtual Power Plants, and microgrids. The primary focus is on residential energy management solutions, helping homeowners minimize electricity bills while providing exceptional customer experiences.
As an intern, you'll contribute to the development and optimization of real-time energy management solutions, working on production-level optimization algorithms and enhancing the accuracy of battery forecasting models. You'll implement and evaluate algorithm performance using cloud-based tools, develop system control algorithms, and collaborate on new customer-facing features. The role also involves applying machine learning techniques to improve system predictions and decision-making.
The ideal candidate is pursuing an advanced degree in Computer Science, Energy System Optimization, Operations Research, Data Science, or Power Systems Economics. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with Linux environments and Git are required. Experience with big data systems, software development, and knowledge of optimization techniques and machine learning models are highly valued.
