Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer Intern for Winter/Spring 2025. This internship, starting around January or February 2025 and continuing through May 2025 or potentially into Summer 2025, requires a minimum 12-week, full-time, on-site commitment. The intern will be responsible for designing maintenance procedures, tooling retrofits, performance improvements, and deploying new processes/equipment. They will work closely with various Tesla teams, including Product Design, Operations, Safety, Facilities, Quality, Maintenance, and Process Engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing Factory and Site Acceptance Tests for manufacturing equipment
- Developing understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, and data collection systems
- Optimizing product flow and line efficiency
- Characterizing and improving system performance
- Driving continuous improvement and cost reduction programs
- Focusing on process control and development
- Working with vendors to resolve equipment issues
- Establishing preventative maintenance schedules
- Generating and maintaining equipment maintenance specifications
- Conducting trials to test equipment improvements
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related field, be self-managed, have hands-on experience, possess professional communication skills, and be able to read basic mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. Previous internship or project experience is a plus.

- Define and oversee Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test of manufacturing equipment
- Develop an understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, data collection systems
- Optimize product flow and line efficiency
- Characterize baseline performance and capability of each system
- Identify and drive continuous improvement and cost reduction programs
- Drive process control and process development
- Work with vendors to understand root cause of failures and implement solutions
- Establish preventative maintenance schedules
- Generate and maintain equipment maintenance specifications
- Perform trials to test equipment improvements
Requirements For Internship, Equipment Engineer, Manufacturing (Winter/Spring 2025)
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related field
- Self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment
- Hands-on experience
- Professional and positive communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
- Previous internship and/or project experience is a plus
