Description For Internship, Test Automation & Validation Engineer, Vehicle Firmware (Summer 2025)

Tesla is seeking passionate interns for their Vehicle Software organization's Systems Validation Team, focusing on high voltage systems, thermal systems, drive systems, and chassis systems. This internship, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge automotive technology and software development.

The role involves working closely with system architects and developers to validate software-driven vehicle requirements before new hardware/software releases. Interns will contribute to developing validation strategies and automated testing solutions, enabling rapid iteration of Tesla's vehicle systems. This position is perfect for students pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related fields who have a strong foundation in embedded systems and programming.

The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $36.06 to $50.48 per hour, plus comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage with $0 payroll deduction options. The internship requires a minimum 12-week, full-time commitment and offers hands-on experience with state-of-the-art technology and tools.

Responsibilities For Internship, Test Automation & Validation Engineer, Vehicle Firmware (Summer 2025)

  • Work with system architects, hardware designers and software developers to maintain expert understanding of vehicle systems
  • Develop and execute comprehensive system and sub-system level test specifications and test plans
  • Develop test automation frameworks and tools
  • Deliver test setups to integrate new subsystems
  • Report and track issues with software and hardware releases
  • Investigate field issues through data analysis
  • Improve safety, performance, and customer satisfaction

Requirements For Internship, Test Automation & Validation Engineer, Vehicle Firmware (Summer 2025)

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on technical experience debugging complex systems
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages and/or C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electrical test instruments
  • Proficiency with Altium or similar schematic software
  • Understanding of physics fundamentals and first principles concepts
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
