Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Electronics

As a Mechanical Design Engineer in Tesla's Power Electronics team, you will be responsible for the design of cutting edge, world-class power converters used across the entirety of Tesla, from Vehicle and Energy Storage to Solar and Manufacturing. You will be joining an elite team of driven engineers with a huge scope, reach, and potential impact. The work is fast-paced and challenging, requiring expertise in various aspects of mechanical engineering, including statics & dynamics, fluids & thermals, mechanics & vibration. You'll also need to understand basic electrical and magnetic physics, and some elementary material science.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Modeling and design of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Mechanical design analysis including thermal, CFD, structural, design for assembly, and design for test
  • Solving electronics packaging issues
  • Developing engineering test plans
  • Creating drawing packages and manufacturing instructions
  • Assisting in engineering prototype builds and component fabrication
  • Collaborating with other engineers to take designs from prototype through mass production

You should bring:

  • Experience with CATIA V5 and/or V6
  • Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for reliability concepts
  • Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring
  • Working knowledge of Matlab, Python and ANYSYS
  • Understanding of electrical design fundamentals
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with PCBAs and PCBA components
