Description For Mechanical Design Engineer Seating, Semi

As a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Seating Engineering Department at Tesla, you will be responsible for design engineering from concept to end of life, as well as problem-solving for existing products. You'll work on seating commodities including structures, mechanisms, actuators, cushions, wire harnesses, controllers, sensors, software, and trims. The role involves conceptualizing, designing, engineering, and managing Seating System parts and products, with a primary focus on structural components.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Problem understanding and definition
  • Concept generation and evaluation
  • Product strategy and architecture planning
  • Balancing product attributes (safety, functionality, comfort, aesthetics, cost, mass, schedule, sustainability)
  • Validation and optimization through prototyping, testing, and simulations
  • 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
  • Bill of Materials creation
  • Detail design including datum & fixation strategy, GD&T, DFM
  • Technical documentation creation
  • Schedule and milestone management

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional ability and demonstrated interest in multidisciplinary engineering
  • Hands-on experience building things
  • Hand-sketching skills
  • Automotive engineering with seating experience (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Strong organizational skills
