Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Geartrain Design and Analysis for their Drive Systems team. This role focuses on designing and analyzing geartrain components and systems to enhance durability, efficiency, noise performance, cost effectiveness, and power density. Responsibilities For Mechanical Engineer, Geartrain Design & Analysis, Drive Systems

  • Design and analyze geartrain components such as rotating shafts, gears, differentials, torque-splitting devices, and clutches
  • Develop component and system level models for geartrain performance
  • Conduct analysis to inform design trade-off decisions
  • Create and execute component or system level tests
  • Troubleshoot durability, efficiency or noise issues
  • Incorporate fleet data into models for performance evaluation
  • Implement models in Tesla's powertrain cloud simulation tool
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer, Geartrain Design & Analysis, Drive Systems

  • First-principles physics understanding of geartrain engineering
  • Experience with geartrain design and analysis tools (LDP, KissSoft, Romax, Transmission 3D)
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, or equivalent programming language
  • Familiar with CAE analysis software (Ansys, Abaqus or Hyperwork)
  • Experience in 3D modeling (CATIA preferred)
  • Experience in rotating machinery design, analysis, tests, and failure analysis
  • Knowledge of gears, bearings, differentials, actuators, clutches
  • Understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
