Description For Powertrain Modeling Engineer

Tesla is seeking a talented Powertrain Modeling Engineer to join their Powertrain Architecture and Modeling team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of electric vehicle technology, developing and validating critical component and system models that drive Tesla's vehicle architecture design and performance evaluation.

The position involves working with a highly cross-functional team, collaborating with Chassis, Cell, Battery, Thermal, and Drive System Engineering teams. You'll be responsible for advancing Tesla's in-house powertrain performance model, conducting trade-off studies, and facilitating multi-objective optimization. This role requires a strong foundation in physics, particularly in electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, and energy storage.

As a Powertrain Modeling Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to directly impact Tesla's vehicle development process, from conception to full production. The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $84,000 to $168,000 annually, plus additional cash and stock awards. Responsibilities For Powertrain Modeling Engineer

  • Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla's in-house powertrain performance model
  • Work with the model to produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders
  • Effectively communicate modeling study results to drive architecture and performance initiatives
  • Develop a consistent framework for reporting progress of model and component development

Requirements For Powertrain Modeling Engineer

  • Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience with hybrid or electric powertrain component model development in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with advanced model development in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with large datasets and complicated models
  • Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
