Description For Powertrain Modeling Engineer

Tesla's Powertrain Architecture and Modeling team is seeking a talented Powertrain Modeling Engineer to join their innovative team in Palo Alto. This role is crucial in developing and maintaining parametric vehicle models that drive Tesla's vehicle architecture design and performance evaluation. You'll work at the intersection of mechanical and electrical engineering, collaborating with various teams including Chassis, Cell, Battery, Thermal, and Drive System Engineering.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to directly impact Tesla's vehicle development process through advanced modeling and simulation work. You'll be responsible for developing and validating component and system models, conducting trade-off studies, and facilitating multi-objective optimization. This role requires a strong foundation in physics, experience with MATLAB/Simulink, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities For Powertrain Modeling Engineer

  • Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla's in-house powertrain performance model
  • Work with the model to produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders
  • Effectively communicate modeling study results to drive architecture and performance initiatives
  • Develop a consistent framework for reporting progress of model and component development

Requirements For Powertrain Modeling Engineer

  • Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Hybrid or electric powertrain component model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with advanced model development, preferably in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with large datasets and complicated models
  • Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
