Description For Test Engineer, Drive Unit

Tesla is seeking a Test Engineer for their Drive Unit team to join their Reliability and Test team in Fremont, California. This role combines electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering expertise to validate and improve Tesla's electric vehicle powertrain technologies.

Responsibilities For Test Engineer, Drive Unit

  • Develop and implement test programs for electric vehicle powertrain technologies
  • Work directly with design engineers to create design validation test plans
  • Design and fabrication of test equipment for mechanical, thermal and electrical systems
  • Perform component, system and vehicle validation under dynamic and environmental conditions
  • Work with design engineers to validate and refine models
  • Analyze test data and write test reports
  • Investigate root cause of failures and help to drive product improvement

Requirements For Test Engineer, Drive Unit

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in physical testing and analysis of mechanical, thermal, or electrical systems
  • Automotive component/system testing experience, including certification testing
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, or other data acquisition and analysis software
  • Design of test setups for mechanical and thermal performance testing
  • Experience creating and executing design validation plans
  • Experience creating analytical and numerical models of mechanical, thermal or electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of heat transfer and thermal management
  • 1-2+ years of experience with Labview and data acquisition systems
