Description For Mechanical Engineer I

Thorlabs is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join their team in Jessup, Maryland. This role involves researching, planning, and designing mechanical products and systems, as well as directing and coordinating activities in fabrication, operation, application, and repair of mechanical products and systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Researching and analyzing customer design proposals and specifications
  • Designing products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical systems
  • Planning and directing engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment
  • Coordinating fabrication and installation activities
  • Data entry and document control in the Thorlabs ERP system
  • Providing knowledge for safe use of machining equipment in the TQE workshop

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 1-4 years of experience in mechanical engineering design
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software
  • Experience with precision automation/robotic systems (highly desirable)
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office and communication tools
  • Excellent statistical data analysis and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong innovation skills and ability to work in a team environment
