Senior Software Engineer, Ground Software

At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. We are building artificial gravity space stations, allowing long-term stays in space without the adverse effects of zero-gravity. Our initial crewed space habitat will be Haven-1, scheduled to be the world's first commercial space station when it launches into low earth orbit in August 2025. As a Senior Software Engineer for Ground Software at Vast, you'll be part of a growing team supporting the development of systems required for the design and manufacture of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This role offers an opportunity to learn and grow under the mentorship of seasoned engineers from aerospace and big tech, building powerful software that helps expand humanity into space.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing web applications using modern frontends and application servers
• Working on backend systems including data modeling, APIs, and supporting pipelines
• Rapidly iterating on tooling and designing new applications as the company grows
• Influencing and adopting software practices that will scale to a large codebase and team

We're looking for candidates with:

• A Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, or other engineering discipline
• 6+ years of software development or relevant industry experience
• Experience building, shipping, and supporting complex, data-intensive full-stack software applications

Preferred skills include experience with ambiguous problems, DevOps (Docker and K8s), multiple programming languages, time series data and databases, CAD software, API design, and familiarity with platforms like React, Vue, NextJS, GraphQL, Node.js, OAuth, Terraform, and various databases.
