Description For Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Data Engineering

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for Data Engineering to join their team, reporting to the Director of Fundraising Technology. This role is crucial in building, maintaining, and operating the data infrastructure that supports the Foundation's fundraising program, which funds Wikipedia and its sister projects.

As a Senior SRE Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for managing distributed data systems, implementing data quality monitoring, and collaborating closely with the Fundraising team. You'll work with a tech stack including Trino/Starburst, MariaDB, Dagster, dbt, Superset, and Metabase. The role requires expertise in high availability distributed systems, database administration, and configuration management tools.

Key responsibilities include deploying and maintaining data systems, ensuring data quality, integrating data from various sources, providing support during high-traffic campaigns, and ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR and PCI DSS. You'll also manage data access control and work on optimizing data input processes.

The ideal candidate should have at least two years of experience in an SRE/Operations/DevOps role, strong skills in Linux/Unix, scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash), and excellent communication abilities. A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred.

This is a remote position, offering the opportunity to work with an internationally distributed team. The Wikimedia Foundation values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and is committed to their mission of freely sharing knowledge globally. They offer competitive compensation and benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance.

If you're passionate about open-source software, have experience with PCI compliance, and are interested in contributing to a project that impacts millions of users worldwide, this role at the Wikimedia Foundation could be an excellent opportunity for you to make a significant impact in the realm of free knowledge and data engineering.
