I’d like to get some research experiences on the side. For those in Meta, does anyone know if this is possible? If not doable internally, how do I find such opportunities?
Are you talking about research a la the type of work at Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research (Meta FAIR) or Google DeepMind? What kind of team are you on now?
I think doing research "on the side" is difficult for the majority of engineers. You should either try to switch to be on one of these teams, or find a product team that is in close collaboration with one of these groups.
I’m generally talking about opportunities to contribute to research papers for the sake of smoother green card processing. I’m currently part of an infra team, so I haven’t seen any of those opportunities internally, but moving to one of those teams makes sense.
As Rahul mentioned, "research" is an incredibly broad term. Have you considered doing post-grad? PhDs in particular go deep on research.
