What AI course should I learn as a Database Administrator?

I'm not a big believer in taking courses without having a clear goal in mind. Even though AI is so new, there's already an infinite amount of ways it's being applied and general resources around it.

I Googled "AI applications for database administrators", and the first article mentioned a lot of things it can help with. As for whether it's genuinely useful for any of them, the jury's out.

I think there's 2 things you can do:

1. Take a course around AI basics - This is general material surrounding how AI/ML work that will be useful as an understanding foundation if you decide to go further into the space.
2. Talk to your manager - Maybe there's some specific DBA problem they have in mind that they think AI would be great for. Maybe they even have a course already in mind. At the very least, this conversation will show that you're taking the initiative!

When it comes to tech, there's an endless deluge of stuff you can learn. I think the best engineers are able to tactically select the 5% of that deluge which is genuinely useful for them while ignoring the rest. Aimlessly learning for the sake of learning is just an easy way to waste time in this industry.

If you're at a large enough company, talk to other DBAs at your company to understand:

• What are the main problems they're facing where AI could be used?
• Are they taking any AI courses?
