  • How to better prepare?
  • How to make a good first impression?
  • Is there any way to establish the manager relationship?

    • Start writing code ASAP
    • Start writing code ASAP
    • Be proactive around trying to write production code ASAP and getting your manager to funnel things that can be coded to you

Code should be your #1 priority.

    • If you are joining at mid level or below, your code output (speed and quality) will be scrutinized. If you fall below the average, you will be PIP'd.
    • If you are joining at senior level or beyond, you do not want your coding skills to get in the way of other behaviors and responsibilities expected from you. If your code execution skills are the main blocker for achieving impact from the projects you worked on (there's a clear lack of speed and/or quality compared to other engineers), you will get PIP'd.

What version of bootcamp are you in?

    • Traditional: You aren't tied to a team, and you need to find one during bootcamp
    • Already matched: You are already allocated to a team, and bootcamp is just training

Nowadays, the vast majority of engineers are in the 2nd bucket (I'm not even sure if the 1st exists anymore). In this case, your goal is just to go through the bootcamp tasks as fast as possible to familiarize yourself with Meta's codebase and overall engineering culture.

There's really no way to prepare for bootcamp if you haven't started at the company yet. Meta's culture and tech stack are so unique that you can't exactly train at home.

How to make a good first impression?

Yes, I'm in the 2nd bucket. I know my team/manager. Thanks both!
