Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Germany

Process

It was a waste of three full days. They allowed me to implement the coding assignment in C, concluding that my C++ skills are weak.

Key points:

  • They encouraged questions but didn't answer until I reminded them.
  • Implementing the assignment in C was fine, which implied the language didn't matter.
  • I received positive feedback about the assignment implemented in C and during all interviews.
  • I was rejected due to weak C++ skills, with their decision based on a 15-minute talk about it.

I still don't understand how someone would allow implementing the assignment in pure C while simultaneously looking for strong C++ skills. I wouldn't be surprised if, next time, they asked me to code a Windows driver and then told me my Linux driver coding skills were weak. I'll just treat it as if I was rejected for another reason.
