Staff Software Engineer Interview Experience - Dublin, Ireland

Process

The interview process at Dublin is poor and devoid of any logic. After an inquiry with friends working there, I learned they have Senior Engineering Managers with zero coding experience who have spent their entire careers in operations roles. Despite this, they have been tasked with building "world-class software development teams." I'm not sure if that can be achieved by hiring managers with no coding background at all.

The process is opaque. Candidates must complete a UI front-end test written in Node.js and Express, where they are asked to fix bugs within a specific time limit. This is the case even if candidates have no prior experience with Node.js. Unlike normal tests, candidates are not allowed to choose their preferred language. When I inquired about this, I was told they don't check language knowledge but are evaluating the ability to work with an unfamiliar application and stack. I managed to fix two out of three bugs. Because the application is entirely UI-based, bug fixes are evident in UI changes. I did not clear the round and was surprised. Upon asking HR, I was informed it was due to performance in the test, but they refused to provide further details.

This is how good companies are destroyed when subpar leadership is installed. They then run their own kingdoms, consuming all resources.
