IT Application Engineer III, Checkout Engineering

As an Application Engineer III at Amazon's Checkout Engineering organization, you will be a technical leader driving innovation and best practices across multiple teams. This role is part of the Point of Sale (POS) systems team for Whole Foods Market stores, a critical component of Amazon's retail operations. You'll lead the design and implementation of large-scale, distributed systems that power critical WWGST services, working closely with product managers and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into innovative technical solutions.

The position involves architecting and implementing high-performance, stable, and scalable solutions for checkout systems including POS, Self-Checkout, and Hospitality POS. You'll be responsible for evaluating and integrating new technologies, mentoring junior engineers, and participating in capacity planning and performance optimization. The role requires participation in on-call rotations to ensure high availability and rapid incident response for critical systems.

As a technical expert, you'll work with cross-functional teams, including third-party software vendors, operations partners, and product teams, to optimize core POS solutions and drive operational excellence. You'll be involved in SAFe ceremonies and architecture discussions, while also providing daily support for critical POS functions.
