Description For Military OEM Engineering Technician Apprentice

This role focuses on those who have military experience and/or are military spouses/children interested in working in the private sector. Amazon's military recruiting team is available to discuss the many opportunities within Amazon. At Amazon, thousands of former military are driving innovation and raising the bar on customer experience.

The OEM Engineering Technician Apprentice role is part of Amazon's apprenticeship program, which offers opportunities for candidates with different backgrounds and qualifications. This 36-month apprenticeship is designed to train multi-skilled maintenance technicians, covering mechanical, electrical, controls, and fluid power skills.

Key components of the apprenticeship:

  • 16 weeks of full-time residential classroom training each year
  • On-the-job training at Amazon Fulfilment Centres/Sort Centres/Delivery Stations
  • Mentoring from RME engineers
  • Development of technical skills and complementary abilities like organization, prioritization, data analysis, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication

The apprenticeship includes:

  • Classroom-based training hosted offsite
  • On-the-job training program delivered by specialist teams
  • Gaining externally recognized qualifications

Apprentices will work in the Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME) team, building engineering skills over the 3-year period. The program includes periods of training at a training centre and practical experience at Amazon facilities.

Qualifications to be gained:

  • NFQ Level 6 Advanced Certificate in OEM Engineering

Responsibilities For Military OEM Engineering Technician Apprentice

  • Learn all aspects of multi-skilled maintenance technician role
  • Attend classroom-based training

Requirements For Military OEM Engineering Technician Apprentice

  • 18 years old or older
  • Leaving Certificate with five O6 or higher grades including Mathematics
  • OR Leaving Certificate Applied with five passes plus Level 5 Mathematics and one year industry experience
  • OR Completed an approved pre-apprenticeship training course in engineering
  • OR Level 5 award on the National Framework of Qualifications with proficiency in Mathematics
  • OR 23 years or over with 3 years in OEM sector (RPL process)
  • Deep interest in maintenance
  • Willingness to become a multi-skilled technician
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English
  • Desire to learn fault finding and repair of automation systems
  • Ability to follow guidelines and meet deadlines
  • Hands-on attitude, flexible, adaptable, and proactive
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Willingness to work to health & safety standards
