Description For Network Development Engineer, BERE Operations

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Network Development Engineer to join their Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) team within the Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) Organization. This role combines network engineering with Unix systems expertise to build and maintain one of the world's largest networks supporting AWS services worldwide.

The position involves deploying and scaling network infrastructure across multiple global datacenters, supporting critical services including Amazon Retail, Kindle, Payments, and various AWS offerings. You'll be responsible for implementing and automating network designs, creating efficient deployment processes, and working closely with internal customers to bring solutions from concept to production.

As part of GCNA, you'll help manage the backbone that connects the global AWS network, ensuring efficient traffic flow between data centers and customers worldwide. The role requires strong technical skills in IP networking, routing protocols, and Linux systems, combined with the ability to automate and scale solutions.

Key responsibilities include creating and maintaining network standards, implementing changes, collaborating with automation teams, and participating in an on-call rotation. You'll work in one of the most sophisticated network environments globally, solving complex challenges at unprecedented scale.

Responsibilities For Network Development Engineer, BERE Operations

  • Deploy network infrastructure across network fabrics supporting Amazon Retail Service, Kindle, Payments and AWS services
  • Deploy, scale and automate network across multiple global datacenters
  • Drive scaling of current network designs to meet customer demand
  • Create simple, repetitive deployment processes
  • Work with internal customers on designs/solutions
  • Create and update network standards
  • Work with automation teams in defining scaling tools
  • Support off-hours operations escalation pager rotation

Requirements For Network Development Engineer, BERE Operations

  • Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals (BGP, OSPF)
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years experience in network focused hands-on technical role
  • 1+ years Unix/Linux command line experience
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking and routing protocols
  • Experience with network analysis and troubleshooting
