Join Amazon's Operations Technology Engineering team building the critical wired and wireless networks powering Amazon's global fulfillment centers and transportation sites. As a Network Development Engineer, you'll be part of a creative team supporting networks used by hundreds of thousands of associates and industry-leading fulfillment systems. The role involves designing next-generation networks supporting robotics, industrial IoT, sensors, drones, and mobile devices.
You'll provide technical leadership in network design, make data-driven decisions, and iterate on solutions to deliver scalable systems. Information security and network reliability are core priorities. The position includes operating the world's largest fulfillment network, mentoring support teams, and driving root cause resolution of critical network events.
The OpsTech NetEng team has broad scope supporting multiple business units globally, from small delivery stations to advanced automated fulfillment centers across North America, Japan, and Europe. This offers variety in both short-term innovation and long-term strategic projects. The role provides unique growth opportunities while making lasting impacts on Amazon's fulfillment networks.
Key responsibilities include providing escalation support, incident analysis, automation development, working with engineering teams on new deployments, driving operational excellence through innovation, ensuring standards compliance, and managing technical communications. You'll also participate in hiring and development while being part of a global 24/7 support organization.
This role requires strong technical skills in networking, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with major routing protocols, large-scale network operations, and a passion for building reliable, secure network infrastructure.
Responsibilities For Network Development Engineer, OTN-Edge
- Provide on-shift network escalation support for critical and complex network issues
- Dive Deep on high severity incidents and participate in root cause analysis
- Automate network administration tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools
- Work with Network Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products
- Drive standards across the network and ensure compliance to standards and policies
- Monitor and manage technical communications during large-scale events
- Troubleshoot networking, routing and interconnectivity issues
- Create and review documentation and process regarding issues
Requirements For Network Development Engineer, OTN-Edge
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- 3+ years of experience with routing and switching hardware from major vendors including Juniper and Cisco
- 3+ years of experience with major routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF
- 3+ years' experience in designing and operating large-scale, production networks
- Ability to work on a diverse team with a diverse range of coworkers
