Description For Optical Network Development Engineer, Capacity Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking an experienced Optical Network Development Engineer to join their Core Networking team's Inter-DC & Optical division. This role is crucial in building, deploying, and scaling Amazon's networks that support AWS across multiple global datacenters. The position combines hands-on technical work with strategic planning, focusing on balancing efficiency, performance, and reliability.

As part of the Capacity Engineering team, you'll be responsible for AWS's inter-datacenter network growth strategy, encompassing design, planning, and delivery of networking infrastructure. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies and be tasked with optimizing existing systems while ensuring the stability of next-generation IP networks.

The role requires expertise in DWDM networks, optical network technologies, and network automation. You'll collaborate with diverse teams including software, hardware, and network engineers, contributing to solutions that maintain AWS's position as the world's leading cloud platform. Responsibilities For Optical Network Development Engineer, Capacity Engineering

  • Create and implement changes on the network
  • Work with automation teams in defining scaling tools
  • Lead network projects in sustaining engineering, deployment, scaling, and optimization
  • Sustain AWS next generation networks for significant customers
  • Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, and configurations
  • Drive innovation from Top of Rack to Network Border
  • Partner with Network/Infrastructure organization
  • Maintain networking toolset standards and compliance
  • Create and review documentation and processes
  • Collaborate with highest tier escalation engineers

Requirements For Optical Network Development Engineer, Capacity Engineering

  • 4+ years experience with rollout of large DWDM networks and Optical network technologies
  • 3+ years experience with optical planning and modelling tools
  • 1+ year professional development experience with Python or similar tool for network automation scripting
