Description For Security Engineer - Semiconductor, Devices and Services Security

Project Kuiper is an ambitious Amazon initiative focused on launching a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. As a Security Engineer in this role, you'll be at the forefront of securing semiconductor and low-level software components critical to satellite broadband telecom service.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on chip-level security, combining hardware and software security expertise. You'll be responsible for identifying security flaws and guiding the development of secure hardware architecture for Project Kuiper's chips. This involves collaborating with business teams to perform chip-level security testing, secure chip architecture design, system reviews, and security assessments of secure boot code, bootloader code, and firmware.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading secure device development from initial design through implementation
  • Conducting threat modeling and security testing
  • Developing security tools and techniques for large-scale device security
  • Providing technical security consultation to product teams
  • Identifying and mitigating security risks
  • Creating security policies and procedures
  • Building security awareness through training and education

The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $136,000 to $212,800 per year based on location, plus comprehensive benefits including medical coverage and equity. This position requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to export control regulations.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in hardware security mechanisms, operating system internals, and security testing, combined with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver secure solutions at scale. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on a revolutionary satellite communications project while working with cutting-edge technology at Amazon.
