Description For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Amazon's Operations division is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join their Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team in Columbus, Ohio. This role is crucial in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance across 5-10 facilities, requiring up to 80% travel time.

The position involves working with cutting-edge technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, and SCADA systems. You'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing material handling equipment (MHE) systems while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you'll collaborate with multiple teams including Operations, FC Start-up Team, AFT Software teams, and Safety to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Your expertise in troubleshooting complex control systems, analyzing performance metrics, and implementing innovative solutions will be essential in ensuring Amazon's signature speed and accuracy in order fulfillment.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with various teams to support MHE systems optimization and project implementation
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support to site technicians and automation engineers
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines to stakeholders

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent, or 4+ years of professional/military experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent, or 4+ years of PLC programming experience
  • 2+ years of experience with PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis
  • 2+ years of experience with robotics work cells and control systems
  • 2+ years of experience with Ladder Logic and structure programming
  • 2+ years of experience with electrical theory, robotics, controls components
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Willing to travel up to 80% of the time
