Description For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Amazon's Operations division is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to support multiple last mile sites across Florida. This role, requiring up to 80% travel, involves overseeing automation engineering at 5-10 facilities. The position is crucial for maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in fulfillment centers through proactive controls automation and technical support.

The role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, requiring deep knowledge of control systems, PLC programming, and industrial automation. You'll work with cutting-edge technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, and SCADA devices while mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-functional teams.

As part of Amazon's Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team, you'll be instrumental in maintaining robotics and material handling equipment that ensures millions of customer orders are delivered efficiently. The position offers opportunities to drive continuous improvement, implement innovative projects, and develop system design improvements to enhance site throughput.

The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting abilities for complex control systems, experience with performance metrics analysis, and the capability to lead technical initiatives. Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with building Operations, Engineering teams, and Safety to support MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems including PLC/PC controllers
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support to site technicians
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site)

Java
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent
  • 4+ years of PLC programming or automation engineering experience
  • 2+ years of process or production environment related PLC-controlled automation experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components experience
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
