Amazon's Operations division is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join their Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team in the Pacific Northwest region. This role is critical in maintaining and optimizing the automated systems that power Amazon's vast logistics network. The position requires extensive travel (up to 80%) to oversee automation engineering across 5-10 facilities.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you'll be responsible for maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in fulfillment centers through proactive controls automation and technical support. You'll work with cutting-edge technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices. The role involves complex troubleshooting, performance analysis, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.

Your expertise will be crucial in mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-functional teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems. You'll collaborate with various teams including Operations, Engineering, FC Start-up, AFT Software, ACES, and Safety to support system optimization and project implementation. The position requires deep knowledge of PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, motor control systems, and electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site), AMZL

  • Serve as the site expert for maintaining automation systems critical to operations
  • Collaborate with building Operations, Operations Engineering teams, FC Start-up Team, AFT Software teams, ACES team, and Safety
  • Understand, maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations
  • Provide second-level escalation support to site technicians and automation engineers
  • Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or headquarters
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments
  • Travel up to 80% of the time to oversee automation engineering at 5-10 facilities

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer (Multi-Site), AMZL

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent, or 4+ years of professional or military experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent, or 4+ years of PLC programming or automation engineering experience
  • 2+ years of process or production environment related PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic and structure programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment experience
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Must work flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
