Description For Senior Automation Engineer, RME

Amazon's Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to play a crucial role in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in their fulfillment centers. This position combines automation engineering with robotics and material handling systems, requiring expertise in PLC programming, control systems, and industrial networks.

The role involves working with state-of-the-art technology including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, and SCADA systems. You'll be responsible for maintaining critical automation systems, troubleshooting complex control systems, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. As a senior engineer, you'll mentor junior engineers and lead cross-functional teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) systems.

The position offers an opportunity to work with Amazon's cutting-edge logistics technology while ensuring the company maintains its reputation for speed and accuracy in order fulfillment. You'll collaborate with various teams including Operations, FC Start-up Team, AFT Software teams, and the ACES team to support system optimization and project implementation.

Key technical areas include PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus), motor control systems, servo drives, and electrical distribution systems. The role requires both hands-on technical expertise and leadership skills, as you'll be expected to provide escalation support and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities For Senior Automation Engineer, RME

  • Serve as site expert for maintaining automation systems
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering teams, and Safety for MHE systems optimization
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems
  • Monitor MHE metrics and address system performance issues
  • Provide second-level escalation support
  • Escalate downtime situations to vendors or headquarters
  • Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
  • Perform and analyze building System Assessments

Requirements For Senior Automation Engineer, RME

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical engineering, engineering technology or 4+ years professional/military experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or 4+ years PLC programming experience
  • 2+ years of PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis experience
  • 2+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • 2+ years of Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Codesys Ladder Logic programming experience
  • 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components experience
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
