Description For Software Development Engineer, Amazon Tax

Amazon Tax Platform Services is seeking a Software Development Engineer to work on one of the world's largest transactional distributed systems. The role focuses on building and maintaining the tax calculation platform that handles tax computations for all Amazon sales globally, both physical and digital.

The team is responsible for ensuring accurate tax calculations at order time and maintaining proper audit records to meet global tax law requirements. This involves managing complex, ever-changing global tax rates and laws while performing calculations quickly and accurately at massive scale - thousands of times per second.

The position requires expertise in handling complex distributed systems that manage hundreds of millions of records and respond to millions of service requests per minute. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle including design, development, documentation, testing and operations.

Working in a Java, Linux and Oracle-based environment, you'll need strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills. The role offers the opportunity to work with customers and peers across Amazon's entire business range while building highly scalable and reliable systems.
